Council rallies behind Clean Up Australia Day

February 10, 2026

The Sydney Hills Youth Army joined forces with the Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi and Hills Shire Councillors to ‘Keep Australia Beautiful’ as part of the annual clean-up initiative, Clean Up Australia Day.

Held on the first Sunday of March, Clean Up Australia Day aims to inspire communities to clean-up their local environment, as well as highlight the importance of environmental conservation.

Organised by The Hills Shire Council, the clean-up team gave up their Sunday morning to trek through the historic Bella Vista Farm and remove any harmful litter.

About 10 large bags of waste was collected from the parkland that surrounds the much-loved Farm complex.

Mayor Gangemi thanked the volunteers for their efforts.

“This is a wonderful achievement and shows how much people care about keeping this beautiful area pristine,” Mayor Gangemi said.

Council’s clean-up initiative was one of many that were held across the country on Sunday, March 5.

Clean Up Australia Day was founded by Ian Kiernan AO in 1989. Since that time, it has grown to become one of the nation’s largest community-based environmental events, with more than 20 million Australians having participated in the initiative over its 34-year history.
