HILLS SHIRE ROADS IMPACTED BY 2022 FLOODS REPAIRED THANKS TO THE REGIONAL AND LOCAL ROADS REPAIR PROGRAM

February 10, 2026

Hills Shire roads across 170 locations have been repaired thanks to Transport for NSW’s Regional and Local Roads Repair Program (RLRRP). The previous State Government allocated $500 million to the RLRRP to support local councils in repairing roads that were damaged by flooding and persistent heavy rain in 2022.

The program was initiated after Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi joined other Western Sydney Mayors in calling for greater support to improve the condition of roads statewide. The Hills Shire Council was successful in securing $11.1 million in grant funding for road patching works.

The works, which ranged from potholes to extensive patch repairs, stretched across The Hills Shire, from Lower Portland to Kellyville, Bella Vista, North Rocks and more. Mayor Gangemi was pleased to see the roads restored to their condition.

“Roads across the state were damaged by the weather events of 2021 and 2022, and I was proud to lead a campaign of Western Sydney mayors to obtain greater resources for councils to repair their roads,” Mayor Gangemi said.

“I would like to thank the previous State Government and, in particular, Robyn Preston, who were instrumental in setting up the RLRRP that has made a real difference in our community.

“Council has worked relentlessly to improve the quality of the road network throughout The Hills and the completion of the works under the RLRRP is a great milestone for our crews and contractors.”

Member for Hawkesbury Robyn Preston MP said:

“Affected councils were overwhelmed by the destruction of the floods they experienced, and the damage caused to local roads. Mayor Gangemi is to be congratulated for his advocacy on this matter, which led to state funding support for road repairs by the previous Liberal/National Government.”
