It took rescuers over an hour to move a critically injured mountain bike rider to safety after he crashed on a track in Westleigh on Sunday (31 October) morning.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) assisted NSW Ambulance to extricate the man, aged in his 30s, trapped 500 metres down a popular riding track off Quarter Session Road, at about 8am. He was suffering suspected critical head and spinal injuries.
The injured rider was then transported by CareFlight Helicopter to Royal North Shore hospital in a serious but stable condition.
FRNSW Superintendent Scott Dodson said the incident was a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
Triple Zero (000) is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
